Northwest Arkansas: One of America’s Best Places to Retire

The home of Wal-Mart Stores, Tyson Foods, and the University of Arkansas, Northwest Arkansas has been a well-kept secret for years, but now the secret is out. Northwest Arkansas has been recognized by AARP Magazine, Money Magazine and Retirement Living as one of the best places in the country to retire. Fayetteville itself was recently named one of “America’s Top 10 Most Livable Cities” by the Partnership for Livable Communities.

The reasons are numerous: a gentle Sunbelt climate, low crime, beautiful natural surroundings, plentiful entertainment and a central location to name a few. Plus, an indefinable combination of old-fashioned Southern charm with the sophistication of a world-class University city and commerce corridor.

Plenty of history (two excellent Civil War parks are in the area), culture (the Walton Arts Center hosts everything from touring Broadway shows to the North Arkansas Symphony), athletics (the Razorbacks dominate their conference in a number of Division I sports), scenery (the Ozark Mountains are seldom more spectacular than where they meet the White River and Beaver Lake) and social life (a huge selection of fine dining, live music, shopping, recreation areas and churches) make Northwest Arkansas a uniquely rewarding place to reside.
